Guidelines for Participants in the World JAIN Challenge

These are the Guidelines for Participants in the World JAIN Challenge. The World JAIN Challenge is organized by a team composed of experts from JAIN, INTERDEM, Alzheimer the Netherlands and Alzheimer Europa. guidelines are applicable to “a product prototype or a full-fledged product already on the market”. The term “product” is used regularly in this document and stands for: 1) a product prototype or 2) a full-fledged product that is already on the market.

1.1  World JAIN Challenge in general

The World JAIN Challenge (WJC) is a public competition for developed or prototyped technical products and services based on Artificial Intelligence that support the quality of life and self-reliance of people with memory problems or dementia and their informal carers and that will support professionals and informal carers in providing optimal care for their loved ones.

The event is organized for people with memory problems or dementia, informal carers, healthcare professionals, and others interested in these topics.

The WJC is a competition in which an independent jury determines which will be the best technical prototype or fully-fledged product World.

Developers, companies, universities, healthcare institutions, healthcare professionals who want to participate in the WJC can make themselves known and register with the secretary of the event at wjc@jainprojects.com.

People who want to participate in the Challenge must quickly submit their product prototype or a full-fledged product description because the number of registrations is limited, namely: 50 product prototypes and 50 full-fledged products.

From all submissions, an assessment committee will select the finalists. The selected finalists will present their product prototype or full-fledged product on the 23rd, and the 24th of March 2022. After that, the assessment committee will declare the winners of the best product prototype and the best full-fledged product. The announcement of the winners will be on the 6th of April 2022.

The official language of the world JAIN Challenge is English.

1.2  Main objective of JAIN

Use of intelligent sensors, artificial intelligence, machine learning, smart algorithms, big data analysis and new media, in the development of products and services for people with memory problems or dementia, informal carers and family, informal carers, healthcare professionals, healthcare institutions, government and healthcare insurers, which:

  • Increase self-reliance and quality of life of people with dementia and informal carers
  • Extend the time that people with memory problems or with dementia can live in one’s own living environment
  • Support informal carers, family, and healthcare professionals
  • Reduce costs within healthcare promoting affordable healthcare, with the same number of FTEs serving more clients

1.3  Who can participate in the World JAIN Challenge?

  1. The WJC has been developed for anyone with a high social commitment and interest in helping people with dementia with assistive technology.
  2. Experts, developers, healthcare facilities, companies, universities, students and other passionate individuals, who wish to participate in the WJC can register and register with the secretary of the event wjc@jainprojects.com.
  3. Only participants who have indicated that they wish to participate and have submitted their product description before Friday, January 28, 2022 – 12:00 PM noon (GMT) can participate in the World JAIN Challenge.

1.4 Latest date for submitting product descriptions

The deadline for submitting product description to the WJC organisation, is:

Friday, January 28, 2022 – 12:00 pm noon (GMT), or until the maximum number of submissions has been reached!

 

1.5 Requirements and Guidelines

1.5.1 Requirements and Guidelines for registration for product description

1. Product descriptions can only be provided by e-mail.

2. Your product description should include:

  • The name of your product
  • Your first name and last name
  • The company name if you are submitting on behalf of a company
  • Your position, possibly your role within the company and your background
  • Your email address and website
  • Your phone number

Describe clearly and concretely how your project contributes to the objectives of JAIN. The effects of the application on current care are made plausible by means of a good substantiation in which the state of current care, the intended target group and the improvement of care through the application are described. The application must match the expectations, wishes and situation of people with dementia, their informal caregivers and professional care staff.

1.5.2  Requirements and Guidelines and submission criteria Product Describition

  1. The official language of the world JAIN Challenge is English
  2. All forwarded prototype or full-fledged product descriptions have to be written in English.
  3. Form requirement: maximum length of 500 words, Arial font size 11, line spacing 1.15
  4. Describe in detail to what problem the product offers a solution for
  5. Describe how the product contributes to:
    • Increased self-reliance and quality of life of people with dementia and informal carers
    • Extended time that people with memory problems or with dementia can live in one’s own living environment
    • Support informal carers, family, and healthcare professionals
    • Reduce costs within healthcare promoting affordable healthcare, with the same number of FTEs serving more clients
  6. Describe your insights on the implementation of the product in healthcare
  7. Describe the specific value of the prototype or full-fledged product for the user
  8. Describe the effectiveness versus costs
  9. Explain by which organization the product has been tested and for what purpose
  10. It is recommended to send a video of max. 2 min and images of the product on 1 A4 to support your application.
  11. The closing date for registration of participants in the WJC 2022 is January 28, 2022 or before that when the maximum number of registrations has been reached.
  12. The limited number of registrations is: 50 product prototypes and 50 full-fledged products.

* Remark: prototypes are about the expected values.

1.5.3  Deadline and form requirement product description

  1. The official language of the world JAIN Challenge is English
  2. All forwarded prototype or full-fledged product descriptions have to be written in English.
  3. Deadline for submitting product description to the WJC organisation: Friday, January 28, 2022 – 12:00 noon (GMT)
  4. Form requirement: maximum length of 500 words, Arial font size 11, line spacing 1.15
  5. Participants will be informed of the acceptance of their product description within 2 weeks.
  6. If changes are needed in the submitted product description, the WJC secretariat will inform the participant of the improvements that are needed to achieve a good product description. However, the full product description must be submitted always before Friday, January 28, 2022 – 12:00 pm noon. After this time, the registration closes and there is no longer any possibility to submit a product description.

1.6 Assessment Procedure

  1. The evaluation procedure of received product descriptions is carried out under the coordination of JAIN and INTERDEM.
  2. After submitting the project proposal, JAIN and INTERDEM will check whether the submitted product description can be processed on the basis of the formal requirements and the submission criteria.
  3. If this is not the case, the submitter will be informed to correct or supplement the product description within 2 weeks, but no later than Friday 26 February 2021 – 12:00 pm noon (GMT).
  4. The independent assessment committee, put together by INTERDEM, assesses both the quality and the relevance of the product. Committee members score each proposal on quality and relevance.
  5. A ranking is made on the basis of these scores van 3 best prototypes en 3 best full-fledged products selected people who have forwarded subjected prototypes or full-fledged products are invited to a presentation in the form of a pitch.
  6. The proposal with the most points after the pitches will be labelled as the best product prototype or the best full-fledged products for people with dementia and their loved ones.

1.7  INTERDEM Assessment Committee

An award committee of INTERDEM with a broad orientation in the field of dementia care, technology development, evaluation, implementation, valorisation is set up for the assessment of the applications.

The assessment committee will consist of:

  • Chairman
  • People with dementia (focus group)
  • Informal carers
  • Care professionals
  • Dementia experts
  • Artificial Intelligence experts

1.8  Assessment criteria

The assessment committee assesses the relevance and quality of all received product descriptions on the criteria below:

  1. Relevance and impact of the application in today’s healthcare
  2. Has it been clearly described to which problem the application offers a solution? For example, is it clearly defined, sufficiently delineated, and adequately elaborated.
  3. Only applicable for full-fledged products: to what extent is the use of the application clearly described in current healthcare practice?
  4. To what extent does the application contribute to the WJC objectives?
  5. To what extent does the application contribute to care in one’s own living environment?
  6. To what extent does the application differ from what already exists in current practice?
  7. To what extent can the application be expected to be applied on a larger scale in the future?

Terms and Conditions World JAIN Challenge

These are the terms and conditions of World JAIN Challenge. The World JAIN Challenge is organized by a team composed of experts from JAIN, INTERDEM, Alzheimer the Netherlands and Alzheimer Europa.

By registering as a participant and subsequently submitting a product description for the World JAIN Challenge, you agree to these general terms and conditions that are associated with the World JAIN Challenge.

2.1  Definitions

  1. The World JAIN Challenge (WJC) is a public competition for developed or prototyped technical products and services based on Artificial Intelligence that support the quality of life and self-reliance of people with memory problems or dementia and their informal carers and that will support professionals and informal carers in providing optimal care for their loved ones.
  2. The event is organized for people with memory problems or dementia, informal carers, healthcare professionals, and others interested in these topics.
  3. The WJC is a competition in which an independent jury determines which will be the best technical prototype or fully-fledged product World.
  4. Developers, companies, universities, healthcare institutions, healthcare professionals who want to participate in the WJC can make themselves known and register with the secretary of the event at registration.wjc@jainprojects.com
  5. For “a product prototype or a full-fledged product that is already on the market”, the term “product” is used regularly in this document. The product stands for: 1) a product prototype or 2) a full-fledged product that is already on the market.

2.2  Applicability

  1. These terms and conditions apply to all participants in the World JAIN Challenge.
  2. Deviations from and/or additions to these general terms and conditions are only valid insofar as they have been approved in writing by JAIN.
  3. By registering as a participant and subsequently submitting a product description for the World JAIN Challenge, you agree to these general terms and conditions and associated information (including briefings and privacy terms). If there are urgent reasons to amend these general terms and conditions, they will be announced in good time.

2.3  WJC participants and promotion

  1. World JAIN Challenge offers participants the opportunity to submit their product description by email. Participants have a chance to win a prize. Participants cannot derive any rights from the submission.
  2. World JAIN Challenge is brought to the attention through e-mails, promotion and by posting information on the website www.jainprojects.com and social media. By submitting a product description, the participant agrees with the guidelines, conditions and criteria. As soon as details from submitted product description are used, prior permission is requested from the specific participant who submitted this product description.
  3. World JAIN Challenge reserves the right at all times to refuse participants, to change or cancel the World JAIN Challenge and / or to deny a participant access to the World JAIN Challenge.

2.4  Eligibility Requirements

  1. Entrants wishing to participate in the World JAIN Challenge must submit their product description by email to registration.wjc@jainprojects.com before the deadline. The product description must meet the requirements set out in these terms and conditions and in other applicable documents. Product descriptions received after the deadline will not be considered.
  2. It is not possible to correspond with the World JAIN Challenge jury about the result and / or the assessment.
  3. The organizers of World JAIN Challenge can provide further information (briefings) about the forthcoming World JAIN Challenge. By participating, the participant will take this information into account and comply with any additional conditions.
  4. World JAIN Challenge and other organizations involved in the World JAIN Challenge take due care (privacy and company sensitive information) when posting on the World JAIN Challenge website and social media. Those involved are asked in advance for verification and consent.

2.5  Publications

  1. Participants agree that the World JAIN Challenge organizers will publish on their own websites, which entrants will participate with which product. Only the title of the product and the company or institute name of entrants will be announced.
  2. Participants agree that the organizers of the World JAIN Challenge will announce on their own websites, which participants have been selected for a subsequent round or prize.
  3. Participants agree the content of the winning product description will be communicated. This will take place on the basis of the submitted Product Description.
  4. Winners and nominees may be asked to participate selflessly in subsequent publicity campaigns of the World JAIN Challenge. Winners and finalists authorize World JAIN Challenge to use images and Product Description for publicity purposes free of charge after the competition has taken place.

2.6  Multiple Product Descriptions allowed per participant

It is allowed to submit multiple product descriptions per participant.

2.7  Intellectual Property Rights

  1. The participant guarantees that he/she is the inventor of the product and that this product does not infringe any intellectual property rights of third parties and that the participant has any permission or license required to complete his solution to the extent required to submit.
  2. The participant must be the owner of the submitted product description. The intellectual and/or industrial property rights and/or other rights to the product description rest with the participant of that product description. Submission of a product description does not transfer these rights to World JAIN Challenge.
  3. The Participants must guarantee the Intellectual Property on the product description itself. Participants who have failed to ensure this thoroughly are responsible and fully liable for this. The participant will indemnify World JAIN Challenge in this respect.
  4. If the submitted product descriptions infringe industrial and/or intellectual property rights and/or other rights of third parties in any way, the participant of that product description is fully liable for this. The participant will indemnify World JAIN Challenge in this respect.
  5. The participant is aware that the organizers and jury members take note of the content of the product descriptions of the participant. By submitting the product description, the participant agrees with this.

2.8  Prohibited Information

This article contains a non-exhaustive list of information that participants may not include or state in or with their product descriptions. The participant guarantees that his/her product description does not contain the following information:

  • Information that is discriminatory or may otherwise be called offensive
  • Information that is contrary to morality
  • Information in which personal data and company-sensitive information of others are made available
  • Information that violates any law or regulation.

2.9  Liability World JAIN Challenge

World JAIN Challenge is never liable for consequential damage.

 

2.10  Privacy

  1. By submitting a product description, the participant grants permission to the World JAIN Challenge organization to process his or her personal data for mutual communication.
  2. The personal data of participants will be destroyed eight weeks after the winner has been selected.

2.11  Terms and conditions of use are governed by Dutch law

  1. These terms and conditions of use are governed by Dutch law.
  2. Any disputes arising from this agreement can be settled with the help of a mediator, although it is not excluded that the court will ultimately pass judgment.
